History

Founded in 1981, Thomas and Adrienne Myers opened Art & Negative Graphics as a prepress trade shop in a small garage located in Hyattsville, MD. Since then we have become a leader in helping our customers reach their marketing goals. Here are just a few of the milestones we have reached so far in our desire to become the regions' leader in marketing support services:

2017
2017 WAS AN EXPANSION YEAR FOR ART & NEGATIVE. REMODELED OFFICES, NEW LANDSCAPING AND SIGNAGE WERE JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG. CAPITAL INVESTMENTS WERE SIGNIFICANT, INCLUDING: CONSTRUCTION OF A DEDICATED, ENVIRONMENT-CONTROLLED ROOM TO HOUSE OUR BRAND NEW 10 FOOT VUTEK 3250 UV PRINTER COMPLIMENTED WITH A ZUND 10'X10' AUTOMATED CUTTING TABLE. This purchase allows us to greatly expand our wide format and signage offerings. Installation of a Xerox iGen5 Digital Press with inline booklet maker. This allows us to provide even faster turn-around times. Installation of a new perfect binder, giving us the ability to produce a greater volume of perfect bound books, catalogs and reports.

2015
Art & NEGATIVE HAS SEEN EXPLOSIVE GROWTH IN EACH OF THE MARKETS WE SERVE. IN RESPONSE, ART & NEGATIVE HAS INCREASED ITS CAPACITY BY INSTALLING 2 XEROX NUVERAS. THESE HIGH-SPEED BLACK AND WHITE PRODUCTION SYSTEMS ARE EACH CAPABLE OF PRINTING 300 PAGES PER MINUTE. IN ADDITION, WE INSTALLED A PITNEY BOWES RS 12000 INSERTER WITH INTELLIGENT INSERTING.

2014
Art & Negative received a clean SOC2 report from the AICPA. This report identifies Art & Negative as having the resources, policies, and procedures in place to ensure the environment is as safe as possible for your secure printing needs.

2013
Art & Negative hired an in-house software developer to build custom websites and automated workflows for our customers.

2011
To respond to our growing direct mail volume, Art & Negative installed an additional 6 station Flowmaster mailing machine with piece recognition cameras and enhanced print heads.

2008
Art & Negative installed a Flowmaster mailing and inserting machine. This machine gives us the ability to insert up to 18 different pieces automatically into a single envelope. We also completely revamped our warehouse, allowing us to fulfill orders much more efficiently. In addition, we acquired a perfect binder, enabling us to provide faster turn-around times on items such as Annual Reports and Directories.

2007
Art & Negative purchased an additional 6 color 40" press and enhanced our digital capabilities with the purchase of a Xerox iGen3 digital press. By the end of the year, we had expanded from 30,000 to 58,000 square feet. This expansion allowed us to accommodate our growing digital printing, mailing, and warehousing clients.

2006
Art & Negative began offering Web2Print solutions, as well as online fulfillment and warehouse management services.

2005
Art & Negative expanded our service line to include digital printing and in-house die cutting.

2004
Art & Negative received our first MBE certification in Maryland.

2002
Art & Negative began offering mailing services.

2001
Art & Negative transitioned from a prepress shop to a full service printing company. We moved to our current location in Lanham, MD, featuring brand new, state-of-the-art equipment.

1988
Art & Negative moved to a 10,000 square foot facility in Bladensburg, MD. This move allowed us to further expand our line of services to include color retouching, image manipulation and page assembly, a very new process at the time.

1987
Adrienne Myers became Chief Executive Officer.

1985
Art & Negative invested in new technology and began creating 4 color process film negatives.

What began with a single light table in a small garage has grown to 38 employees and 58,000 square feet, providing over 160 customers with the marketing support solutions they deserve. Join us, and become a part of where we are going.

Highly Secure Infrastructure

In 2020, Art & Negative once again received a clean SOC2 report from a member of the AICPA. This is vital to all of our customers, but especially to our current and potential clients looking for a partner for their secure printing needs. We do this through our extensive physical and IT security protocols.

Our physical security begins with our monitored alarm system. Should a perimeter breach occur, police and company officers are notified, and will respond immediately. Internally, the areas that house secure or personal data are kept locked, and entry is only granted to select employees via our tiered badge entry system. Our Closed Circuit Video Surveillance System monitors both the building perimeter, and all areas internally 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All activity is recorded to a DVR system.

Electronic security is maintained through a proprietary Intrusion Prevention Firewall System and a host of other controls to ensure that your data is secure with us.

Together, these systems have established Art & Negative as the area's leader in secure printing.
